Fashion for Good
Action for Children's annual Spring Lunch brought a runway, a full room and a serious purpose to The Peninsula — hosted by Saira Khan, with a turn from Jo Elvin and a collection from Soma of London. Studio 8 was there to document the whole afternoon, from arrivals to the appeal.
The Peninsula, London — March 2026
There is a particular skill in making a fundraiser feel like a good afternoon out. Get it right and nobody notices the work — guests simply arrive, sit down, enjoy themselves, and give generously because the whole thing has been designed to make giving feel easy. Action for Children's Spring Lunch, held at The Peninsula in March, was exactly that kind of afternoon.
It begins before the doors open: a page boy in Peninsula white waiting in the marble lobby, trays of champagne moving through the arriving guests, a room being readied for a few hundred people. Then the format takes over — a full house, a fashion show down the centre, and a cause at the heart of it. Saira Khan hosted; Jo Elvin took a turn on the microphone; Soma of London supplied the collection that moved through the room. And underneath all of it sat the reason everyone was there — raising money for vulnerable children who need it most.
Studio 8 photographed the day from every side: the arrivals and the back-of-house, the polish of the runway, and the genuine warmth of the people watching it. Because at an event like this, they're never really separate. The fashion is the draw. The room is the point.
The Work Behind a Day of Giving
The runway carried the surface of the day — clean tailoring, a scoop-back pale blue maxi caught in soft light, a teal one-shoulder dress threaded with pearl, a menswear look in unhurried white linen. Soma of London's collection gave the afternoon its structure and its colour.
But the frames that tend to matter most from an event like this are the human ones, and there were plenty. The host laughing mid-sentence. A speaker with both arms out, mid-point. A gentleman in a green waistcoat and a good hat, entirely at ease. Two friends leaning in for a photograph. A member of the team on the floor, keeping the whole thing moving. And, when the appeal came, a hand going up at a table — the exact moment the afternoon turned into money for the cause.
That is the brief Studio 8 works to at a fundraiser: document the production properly — the venue, the arrivals, the people who run it — but never lose the people it's for. Photograph the show, and photograph the reason for the show. When both are in the edit, the story holds together, and the next room full of supporters can see precisely what they'd be part of.
“The purpose was serious. The afternoon was not — and that contrast is exactly what made the room work.”
The measure of a fundraiser isn't really the fashion or the venue, generous as both were here. It's whether the room believed in what it was there to do — and this one visibly did, from the first glass of champagne to the last hand raised. The afternoon raised money for Action for Children while feeling, from every seat, like a genuinely good day.
Studio 8 photographs charity events across London with that whole picture in mind: the lobby and the tables, the collection and the cause, the team behind the scenes and the guests out front. The images from the Spring Lunch are exactly that — proof of an afternoon that did serious good while looking, from arrivals to the appeal, completely at ease.
